(1831 Digoin - 1910 Paris) Die Kokette Subtil erotisches, mit weichem Farbenschmelz und subtil modellierender Lichtführung ausgeführtes Werk Piots, der sich auf weibliche Schönheiten spezialisierte. Piot studierte bei Léon Cogniet in Paris und debütierte 1850 im Salon. Er wurde zu einem höchst erfolgreichen und gefragten Maler des wohlhabenden und reichen Pariser Bürgertums. Außer Auftragsporträts schuf Piot viele genrehafte, höchst reizvolle Bildnisse anmutiger Mädchen und junger, schöner Frauen, denen er oft lyrische Titel gab. Während der Belle Époque musste sich überdies jede Debütantin porträtieren lassen und Piot war ein Meister darin, diese in fesselnder Weise zu malen. 1883 wurde Piot Mitglied der Société des Artistes Français, noch bis 1909 beschickte er den Salon, 1889 war er auch mit Gemälden auf der Weltausstellung vertreten. DOUX REPOS (SÜSSE RUHE) Öl auf Leinwand. 119,5 x 80 cm. In elegantem vergoldeten Rahmen. Das Gemälde zeigt ein schlafendes Geschwisterpaar, im Zentrum leicht nach unten versetzt, das in völliger Entspannung auf einem roten Samtsessel wiedergegeben ist, ihre weiße saubere Kleidung belegt ihre Unschuld. Hinter den beiden ist eine junge Frau dargestellt, wohl die Mutter, die in Richtung Betrachter blickt und zum Schweigen ermahnend einen Arm erhoben hat. Dennoch blickt sie mild und freundlich auf den Betrachter. Piot studierte Malerei unter Léon Cogniet (1794-1880) in Paris und stellte ab 1850 auf dem Pariser Salon auf. Von 1864 bis 1869 lebte er in New York, zog danach jedoch wieder zurück nach Paris. Piot war bereits zu Lebzeiten äußerst erfolgreich als Portraitist der wohlhabenden Pariser und ist besonders bekannt für seine Portraits junger Frauen. Ab 1870 stellte Piot auf dem Salon auch Genredarstellungen aus, das vorliegende Gemälde ist eine besonders anmutige Verquickung der beiden Sujets, zeigt es doch als Genre die schlafenden Kinder und dahinter das feine Portrait der jungen Frau. Der starke Kontrast von hellen und dunklen Farben im Wechsel scheint die insgesamt ruhige Atmosphäre eher zu unterstützen, als aufzubrechen. He traveled to Paris as a young man and was a student of Leon Cogniet during the late 1870's. Cogniet instilled within Piot a love for the human form. As a genre painter, or rather a painter of the female face, Piot had few equal. Piot's debut at the Paris Salon came in 1880. Three years later, he had an exhibition at the Societaire des Artistes Francais. His work is part of the collections at the Brooklyn Museum, in New York, and at the Rouen Museum, in France.

L’ALBUM JAPONAIS Adolphe-Etienne Piot (1850-1910), vers 1911 Chromolithographie sur papier tramé et collée sur carton, imprimerie Cham- penois à Paris. Panonceau faisant partie du corpus des «Séries annuelles» illustrant une de femme légèrement vêtue et lisant un album dont les motifs de couverture sont d’inspiration japonaise. Ce genre de composition et l’ambiance qui s’en dé- gage sont typiques du travail de Piot. Louis Lefèvre-Utile restera fidèle à cet artiste rencontré par l’intermédiaire de son imprimeur parisien Champenois. Panonceau faisant partie du corpus des «Séries annuelles» illustrant une de femme légèrement vêtue et accoudée à un fauteuil voltaire. Ce genre de com- position et l’ambiance qui s’en dégage sont typiques du travail de Piot. Louis Lefèvre-Utile restera fidèle à cet artiste rencontré par l’intermédiaire de son imprimeur parisien Champenois. L’industriel nantais fera l’acquisition de deux autres œuvres de Piot qui serviront d’illustration pour les «Séries annuelles» des années 1902 et 1911. Très bel état. 73,4 x 51,2 cm.

Etienne Adolphe Piot (1850 - 1910) Oil Painting. Antique French 19th century oil painting on canvas in antique frame. Plaque at bottom center. Titled the Bubble Girl. Measures 41 x 32 inches. According to askart.com "Adolphe Piot was born in Dijon, France in 1850. He traveled to Paris as a young man and was a student of Leon Cogniet during the late 1870's. Cogniet instilled within Piot a love for the human form. As a genre painter, or rather a painter of the female face, Piot had few equal. Piot's debut at the Paris Salon came in 1880. Three years later, he had an exhibition at the Societaire des Artistes Francais. His work is part of the collections at the Brooklyn Museum, in New York, and at the Rouen Museum, in France"
