    Leonard Pinkhof (1898-1944) - a collection of two drawings and five prints by the artist 1-2 portraits, three pencil sketches, two signed and two dated (1933-1934) 44.5X27.5-50.5 X38 cm. 3-4. Urban landscapes, two lithographs. Signed on the board. Pages approx. 49.5X40 cm. 5-6. Two woodcuts. Signed on board. One is signed in pencil. 19X11 and 24X19 cm. In different situations: General condition: stains, tears and creases. One of the drawings with missing tears on the margins, a rough tear on the left margin (no damage to the drawing) and a tear torn with adhesive tape. * Leonard Pinkhof (1898-1944), Dutch Jewish painter and educator. Spent most of his adult life in the city of Den Helder, the Netherlands, and took an active part in the life of the city's artistic and Jewish community. In 1940, when the German army occupied the Netherlands, he was fired from his post and forced to wander between several cities until 1944, when he was apprehended and sent to the Sobibor extermination camp. .

    Signed pencil sketch portrait. Dated, 9.1.1933. Leonard Pinkhof [1898-1944] was born in Amsterdam to a traditional Jewish family with an interest in art and science. His talent for art was developed in the Art Institute of Amsterdam's National Museum, where he studied sculpture and paint. He participated in the artistic side of the battles protesting the pogroms against Russian Jewry [such as designing posters]. He spent most of his life in Den Helder, focusing on his art and illustrating books that were generally on Zionist topics. When Holland was conquered by the German army, he was fired from his job and fled. After many attempts to conceal himself from the Nazis, he was caught and sent to the Sobibor death camp where he met his death. Size: 36x51 cm. Tear with loss on left. Tears with tape reinforcements on the back. Moderate-fine condition.

Leonard Pinkhof (1898-1944), Jewish-Dutch painter and educator, spent most of his adult life in Den Helder, Holland, and was active in the Jewish and artistic life in the city. In 1940, when Holland was occupied by the German army, he was fired from his post and was forced to wander between several towns until he was caught in 1944 and sent to Sobibor extermination camp. Condition varies, overall fair condition. Stains, tears and creases. One of the drawings has open tears at margins; large tear at left margins (not affecting drawing) and a tear repaired with adhesive tape.
