    Modeled by William Hackwood (English, 1757-1832). Designed by Lewis Pingo (English, active 1743-1830). Portrait Medallion of David Garrick. Jasperware, ca. 1777-1780. Wedgwood & Bentley (1769-1780). A beautiful Wedgwood jasperware cameo portrait medallion of David Garrick (1717-1779), and English actor, playwright, theatre manager, and producer who influence nearly all aspects of European theatrical practice throughout the 18th century. The renowned thespian looks right, his coiled locks pulled back in a ponytail, while a Classical toga drapes his shoulders, his strong profile boasts an arched brow, an aquiline nose, slender lips, and slight jowls. "GARRICK" is stamped below the bust, serving to identify the portrait. NGC graded Mint State-65 Brown. 43.3mm. This is a beautiful, Gem NGC graded Mint State-65 Brown Bronze Portrait medal by Lewis Pingo (1743-1830). It shows an impressive, left-facing bust of Cook in his Naval uniform, the surround states, "OCEANI INVESTIGATOR ACERRIMVS" (THE MOST INTREPID INVESTIGATOR OF THE SEAS). The reverse shows the personified figure of Fortune holding a Naval rudder atop of a globe, "NIL INTENTATVM NOSTRI LIQUERE" (OUR MEN HAVE LEFT NOTHING UN-ATTEMPTED). This medal is illustrated by C. Wyllis Betts, "American Colonial History Illustrated by Contemporary Medals," number 553. The color is a beautiful medium chestnut-brown with superb glossy hard surfaces and traces of underlying mint reddish luster within some legends and devices. A beautiful medal in Gem Mint State of this extremely popula, rare medal.
