    Luo Ping Watercolor and Ink on Paper

    A Luo Pin 羅聘 (Chinese, 1733-1799) watercolor and ink on paper mounted to silk lined panel one of three depicting a fisherman smoking a long pipe. There are four seals along the top and one at lower left with date inscription (1777) 乾隆丁酉孟春 Qianlong period Dingyou year and Mengchun Month or first month and signature along the left side. Provenance: From the estate of Fred E Armstrong of Mobile, AL purchased during his time in China (Shanghai or Hong Kong) while traveling around the world in the 1930’s as documented in his book Travel Tales Around the World. This trip was made possible by the sales from his publication company Armstrong Systems. The painting was passed down through descent to his great grandson Evan Foreman of Atlanta, GA.
