Upon approach, the dark rectangles of Fascia resolve themselves into a cascade of metallic lines, as the light catches strains of graphite. DIOGO PIMENTÃO (n. 1973) "Extended (monochrome)" Gator foam, grafite, cimento, gel ligante, marcador permanente e gesso acrílico 2023 Dim. aprox.: 42,2 x 51,6 x 5 cm. Sinopse: Inicialmente temos um desenho a grafite a cobrir por completo uma superfície retangular. Esse retângulo totalmente preenchido reduz a possibilidade de qualquer representação para além da relação entre o grafite e a superfície onde é desenhada. Adivinha-se uma suavidade e a persistência com o que o grafite foi aplicado pelo artista. O cimento que vemos sobre esse desenho é um resíduo que o artista reaproveita, reciclando nesta peça. Trata-se de uma fina, frágil e irregular placa de cimento. O cimento cuja fragilidade sugere a ruína, é delicadamente recortado de forma que os espaços geométricos retirados no permitam entrever o desenho que vemos por baixo. As linhas de perspetiva ligadas ao retângulo inicial criam uma ligação de continuidade. Estabelecem-se assim diversas relações neste desenho. Inicialmente desenhado por preenchimento também é desenhado por extração, pelo resíduo reaproveitado ou ainda por linhas que unem e sugerem esta relação inusitada de formas geométricas com materiais diferentes. Entre ordem e desordem, acidente e controle, esta desenho fala-nos também do que é feita a nossa mente e as suas formas de pensamento. Biografia Diogo Pimentão nasceu em Lisboa em 1973. Vive e trabalha, desde 2012, em Londres. A sua formação em escultura passou pelo Centro Internacional de Escultura de Pêro Pinheiro e pelo Ar.Co em Lisboa, tendo feito um seminário em Gotland, na Suécia. Desenvolve o seu trabalho entre o desenho e a escultura, refletindo sobre a relação entre o desenho e os processos que o envolvem. A grafite é um componente central na sua obra. Em 2010, Pimentão foi apoiado pela Direção Regional dos Assuntos Culturais de Paris e, em 2016, através da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, esteve em residência na Residency Unlimited em Nova Iorque. Os seus trabalhos integram diversas coleções internacionais, entre as quais, da Fundação EDP, Fundação Serralves, Banco Central Europeu, Centre Georges Pompidou, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. Tem participado em exposições individuais e coletivas em Portugal e no estrangeiro. Em 2018, Diogo Pimentão expôs “Extended Meaning” paralelamente na galeria Zak Branicka e no Camões Berlim. A sua pesquisa associa o aleatório a uma técnica dominada, através do rasto e das marcas, da linha ou do traço. A folha pode ser dobrada, enterrada em suportes, ou colocada no chão de modo a adquirir movimento. Roupas e livros podem surgir pontualmente, com o estatuto de imagem e de escultura, entre o vazio de um corpo ou de uma voz ausente e a possibilidade de uma imagem ou de um conceito que os anima. A performance é uma forma de partilha da experiência alargada do desenho e da sua feitura, dando a ver como sons e gestos a integram.
