John Pike, artist and author of an educational book entitled John Pike Paints Watercolors, was born in Boston in 1911. John Pike paintings display his command of color and lighting, often showcasing urban scenes or landscapes. In 1945, he went to Korea during the U.S. occupation to document the hostilities with his art, and many of these works are housed in military art museums and archives.

After his work in Korea ended, he continued to create paintings for the United States Air Force. Artist John Pike later became a member of the Air Force Historical Foundation, and in 1960, he established a watercolor school in Woodstock, New York. John Pike watercolors can be seen on the covers of magazines such as Life, Fortune, and Reader's Digest.
