Created circa 1850, having a rich dark brown patina, incised Pigalle to the base of the chair. Height 10", length 7.5", width 5.75". Raised on a bronze fitted dais or stand, 6.25" wide, 8.5" deep. Overall height 20.25".

Schon kurz nach seinem Eintritt im Jahr 1810 in die Ecole des Beaux Arts, stellte J.M. Pigalle von 1814 bis 1850 im Salon aus. Sein Werk umfasste Büsten, Medaillons und Statuetten berühmter Persönlichkeiten. Die Bronzebüsten des Kaisers Alexander von Russland sowie die des Königs von Preussen waren im Jahr 1815 im Salon ausgestellt. Es sind Bronzefiguren grosser Schriftsteller bekannt: Molière, Racine, Corneille, Pascal, La Fontaine usw. Das Museum von Dijon besitzt von diesem Künstler eine mit 1828 datierte Bronzefigur von Bossuet, das Musée Carnavelet in Paris einen Guss des 'Mirabeau à la tribune'. Lit.: P. La statue d'Honoré-Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau (1749-1791), était destinée à être plaçée à la Chambre des Députés. L'homme politique, Mirabeau était surtout connu pour sa participation à la rédaction de la 'Déclaration des Droits de l'Homme et du Citoyen' en 1789.
