He founded the Rowohlt Verlag in 1908 in Leipzig. The writing in ballpen from the reverse is pressing through to the front. On the surface are scratches and slight handling creases. The dimensions are 29.8 x 21.1 cm. The photograph shows marginal wear, handling creases, scratches and abrasion in the middle. The dimensions are 25.6 x 24.3 cm. Rosemarie Pierer (1918-2012) The German Photographer Rosemarie Pierer was born in Bernburg, but moved to Hamburg in 1949, where she founded her own studio. The famous photograph and model Inge Schönthal, later Feltrinelli, was trained by the Grande Dame of German photography in the 1950s. Pierer worked for the 'Thalia-Theater' and for many different companies, such as Beiersdorf, Deutsche Airbus, Philips, Chamber of Commerce in Hamburg, Maico. In her last years she concentrated again on portrait-photographs, among others Architect Hadi Teherani and former chancellor Helmut Schmidt. Along the margins are visible smears. On the surface are slight handling creases and scratches. The dimensions are 23.9 x 18.2 cm. At the young age of eight it was her biggest wish to get her own camera. Pierer is known for her photographs that are beautiful in the combination of highest technical standards with artful composition. Depicted here is presumably the young Inge Schönthal, later Feltrinelli, who was initially taught by Pierer in her studio in Hamburg. She is depicted leaning against a statue at the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin. The photograph bears verso the photographer's stamp, the copyright stamp and the handwritten caption 'Schloss Charlottenburg'. The photograph is mounted with photo corners under a mat. Apart from some blemishes to the edges and a tiny retouching at the neck, the photograph is in very good condition. The mat is 60 x 50 cm in size and the dimensions of the photograph are 32.2 x 28.5 cm.
