House of Heydenryk Frame Provenance: Dr. Havlor and Astrid Jaeger Collection Lot Essay: A poet and lawyer by profession, Philippe-Auguste often, in the manner of Matisse's later practice, worked with cut-outs. For Philippe-Auguste, however, the cut-outs were primarily a foundational layering tool that, once traced, allowed him to paint with playful combinations of saturated color. From landscapes to mythical figures, historical and literary archetypes are reinterpreted through Philippe-Auguste's fantastical magical imagination.
