    PETTY, Sir William (1623-1687). Hiberniae delineatio. [Dublin: for the author, 1685]. Folio (22 4/8 x 17 inches). Engraved portrait of Petty by Edwin Sandys, second state of the engraved contents leaf, with "Cum Privilegio Regis" added, and 37 maps on 36 sheets, 5 folding, contemporary hand-color in outline (all except the folding maps, trimmed and expertly laid down on larger sheets, some expert repairs to short tears or to restore margins). Modern half speckled calf, marbled paper boards antique, contemporary red morocco lettering-piece centred on the front cover and finely decorated with a broad border of arabesque roll tool and small bird and hound tools. Provenance: Armorial bookplate of Reverend Daniel Augustus Beaufort LLD (1739-1821), Irish cartographer. First edition, second state with "Cum Privilegio Regis" added to the Contents leaf. From the distinguished library of famous Irish cleric and cartographer Daniel A. Beaufort, whose most controversial map "Memoir of a Map of Ireland" was published in 1792 and depicted all the protestant churches in Ireland, but none of the Catholic. Wing S1928.
