    (Ginevra, 1607 - Vevey, 1691) Ritratto di dama Olio su tela ovale, cm 75,5X60 Provenienza: Torino, Collezione Zabert Torino, Collezione privata Figlio dello scultore Saül Petitot, Jean si formì nell'atelier di Pierre Bordier e ben presto, nell'esecuzione dei ritratti, allievo e maestro iniziarono a collaborare dividendosi i compiti: Petitot si dedicava alla pittura delle teste e delle mani, mentre Bordier si riservava l'esecuzione dei capelli, dei drappi e degli sfondi, creando un sodalizio molto raro. Entrambi e di comune accordo si trasferirono in Italia, quindi in Inghilterra e a Londra, dove il medico Théodore de Mayerne li aiutì a perfezionare le miscele dei colori. In Inghilterra i due artisti ottennero innumerevoli commesse di corte e Carlo I nominì Petitot cavaliere ospitandolo a Whitehall. Successivamente si stabilirono in Francia dove Luigi XIV lo insignì del titolo di Peintre du Roi e gli diede ospitalità nel palazzo del Louvre, dove oggi è conservata una collezione di cinquantasei suoi ritratti e Petito si rese disponibile a copiare dipinti di Pierre Mignard e Charles Le Brun.

Présenté sous verre sur une tabatière en écaille brune (accidents) à intérieur doublé d’or. Poinçon de garantie Coq 3 Paris (1809-1819) et reste de poinçon d’orfèvre. 50 x 81 x Ht 21 mm. Poids brut : 99,9 g. Historique : L’identification du sujet se fait à travers deux portraits identiques à notre sujet, passés en vente sur le marché de l’art, avec chacun l’identification inscrite d’époque sur la toile (vente T.de Maigret du 14 septembre 2018, n° 37, « Portrait de la Princesse Soubise Chabot ») En plus de la technique, l’encadrement en or à décor feuillagé souligné d’un filet d’émail bleu est caractéristique de Jean Petitot I. L’ensemble a été monté sur une tabatière à la Restauration. On retrouve certaines tabatières de l’orfèvre VACHETTE montées avec des portraits de Jean Petitot. Biographie : Anne de ROHAN CHABOT (1648-1709) Membre de la Maison de Rohan, elle se marie en 1663 à François de Rohan, prince de Soubise.
