    Signed with initial and numbered 4/25 l.l. - Bronze, H. 8.2 cm - N.B.: - In 1945 Perlmuter met the Dutch sculptor Wessel Couzijn, who fled to the United States due to the war. He had enlisted at the Art Students League just as Perlmuter. This meeting resulted in their marriage in December of 1945. In 1946 Couzijn and his wife returned to Amsterdam, where they both lived until their death.

Provenance: - Art Gallery Willy Schoots, Eindhoven. - Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Poelstra - Nanninga, Vlaardingen. N.B. I: Pearl Perlmuter grew up in the Bronx neighbourhood of New York as a daughter of a Jewish-Orthodox family from Eastern-Europe. During her studies she attended evening clases there at the renowned Art Students League. During this period Perlmuter was introduced to Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, both representatives of abstract-expressionism. In 1945 she met the Dutch artist Wessel Couzijn who had fled to the United States because of his Jewish descent, and who also had enlisted at this course. This meeting resulted in marriage vows in December of 1945, after which they moved to The Netherlands a year later. The artist was only one of a few in The Netherlands who embraced the Dutch modernism in her sculptural works. She represented sharp, pointed ends, exploding forms and dynamic movements. Sculptures full of drama and aggression with titles such as 'Enclosed', 'Resistance' or 'Liberation'. Her works almost always portray the subject of struggle. N.B. II: Mr. and Mrs. Poelstra started collecting modern art in the mid seventies. At the onset the primary colours and playful nature of the works by Cobra artists most appealed to them. Later on they developed an interest for objects in wood, bronze and glass, besides works on canvas and paper. This collection was formed with love and attention, and due to their passionate interest in art and the art market, this collection only contains works of a high quality.
