Hugo Vilfred Pederson Sold at Auction Prices

The Danish painter and illustrator Hugo Vilfred Pederson was a student of B. Schröder and F. Henningsen. In 1895 he travelled to Sumatra, Java, Malaysia and Singapore, where he made portrait sketches of the people he saw, later to be published in the bookDoor den Oost-Inischen Archipel. Pederson spent many years in India and portrayed the Maharaja of Burdwan while there.

Pederson, Durch den Indischen Archipel - Eine Kunstlerfahrt, Stuttgart &  Leipzig, 1902  Hugo Pederson received his initial training at the Copenhagen Art Academy. Early on he had the opportunity to travel abroad. He went to the East to the former European colonial areas in Dutch India and later British India. He established his reputation as a portrait painter of both local and European rulers. This resulted in his being nicknamed, the rajah painter. His paintings were skilfully and traditionally done, often in a splendid, sweeping style with a sense of narrative and the dramatic.

P.” lower left Paintings by Hugo Vilfred Pederson fetch up to 40,000 euros at international auctions 100.5 x 64 cm (framed) Very good condition This painting by the Danish artist Hugo Vilfred Pederson presents a view to the Shwedagon Pagoda, also known as the Golden Pagoda, in Yangon, Burma. The individual decorations of the roofs and towers of the pagoda are highly detailed. The painting has a calming effect on the one hand and intrigues the viewer on the other. The painting is in very good condition with only minimal traces of age. The artist’s signature “Hugo V. P.“ is found lower left. The work including the frame measures 100.5 x 64 cm.
