Exhibited: The Paris Salon, 1936. Beatrice Stella Pedder was born in East Clevedon, Somerset, where her family lived for many years; her father was in the India Civil Service, and her grandfather was Vicar from 1830 until his death in 1871. Stella, as she was known, was educated privately and then studied at the Westminster School of Art. Her work mainly consisted of landscapes and portraits, in both oils and watercolours, as well as pastels. She exhibited at major exhibitions for over fifty years, including ten works at the Royal Academy. Her pictures show a freedom of style and vibrance of colour which could only be achived by someone who truly enjoyed their work. Her creativity and passion for painting motivated her throughout her career, and she continued to paint right up until a few days before her death in January 1965.
