    Josef Paulus (1877-1955): "Elbogen in the 14th century" Watercolor/mixed media on cardboard framed behind glass in a finely stuccoed wooden frame with gold staffage. Depiction of the historic town of Elbogen (today Loket/Czech Republic) with town walls, castle and other historic buildings with the river Eger in the foreground. Partly drawn in impasto with very finely worked details. Signed lower left: J. Paulus, inscribed lower right: "Elbogen im 14. Jh.". Label with information on the artist on the reverse. Dimensions: frame dimensions approx. 50 x 40.5 cm, image dimensions approx. 37.5 x 27.5 cm. Good condition with traces of age and use, slight staining, paint on frame with losses. Josef Paulus (1877 Elbogen - 1955 Kempten) was a German painter, illustrator and photographer. His works mainly include landscape paintings from the Bohemian region as well as copies of works by other painters such as Raphael Wehle. His oil painting Elbogen Castle was included in the collection of the Körner Museum in Dresden. Josef Paulus (1877-1955): "Elbogen im 14. Jh." Aquarell/Mischtechnik auf Malkarton hinter Glas in einem fein stuckierten Holzrahmen mit Goldstaffage gerahmt. Darstellung der historischen Stadt Elbogen (heute Loket/Tschechien) mit Stadtmauern, Burg und anderen historischen Gebäuden mit dem Fluss Eger im Vordergrund. Teilweise pastös gezeichnet mit sehr fein ausgearbeiteten Details. Unten links signiert: J. Paulus, unten rechts bezeichnet: "Elbogen im 14. Jh.". Rückseitig Etikett mit Informationen zum Künstler. Maße: Rahmenmaß ca. 50 x 40,5 cm, Bildmaß ca. 37,5 x 27,5 cm. Guter Erhaltungszustand mit Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren, leichte Fleckenbildung, Farbe am Rahmen mit Fehlstellen. Josef Paulus (1877 Elbogen - 1955 Kempten) war ein deutscher Maler, Illustrator und Fotograf. Seine Werke umfassen hauptsächlich Landschaftsmalereien aus den böhmischen Raum sowie auch Kopien der Werke anderer Maler wie beispielsweise von Raphael Wehle. Sein Ölgemälde Burg Elbogen wurde in die Sammlung des Körner-Museums in Dresden aufgenommen.
