Jeram Patel, one of the pioneers of abstract art in India, was a founding member of the collective Group 1890, along with artists Jagdish Swaminathan and Gulam Mohammed Sheikh. He was known for using blowtorches on woodwork medium in a method that he learned in Japan and then pioneered in India. Jeram was part of a group of an artists called Group 1890. Jeram Patel Abstract Ink Painting

India,1930-2016 Depicts abstracted forms of phallic nature over thinly drawn boarders. Patel was a pioneer of abstract art in India, studying at the Sir JJ School of Art in Mumbai. In the late 1950's, Patel travelled to Japan where he became enamored with the concept of burning wood. Patel has had frequent exhibitions in India and abroad and received many awards including the Lalit Kala Akademi national award in 1957, 1963, 1973, and 1984.
