MILAN PASTÉKA (1931-1998) STILL LIFE WITH A ROOSTER

    Est: -

MILAN PASTÉKA (1931-1998) STILL LIFE WITH A ROOSTER 1980s, Slovakia Paštéka belonged to the group of artists surrounding Mikuláš Galanda and to the young generation of Slovaks who met with political persecution from the beginning of their artistic careers. Paštéka participated in international exhibitions during a brief period in the 1960s (the São Paulo and Venice Biennial, exhibitions in Berlin and Munich, the Expo in Osaka). In the late 1980s and 1990s, Paštéka came into the public awareness again; he took part in the Venice Biennial along with Jiří Kolář in 1990. His new start was sadly cut short with a fatal accident in 1998. Paštéka's work can be briefly characterized as existential, expressive and primarily figural, with a strong emphasis on the significance of the use of color. This piece is one of the artist's later works, characterized by a certain disengagement from figurative motifs. Oil on canvas, signed upper left: Paštéka.
