  • DeWitt Parshall (Attrib.), Landscape Painting
    May. 14, 2022

    DeWitt Parshall (Attrib.), Landscape Painting

    Est: $500 - $1,500

Landscape painting (oil on board) attributed to DeWitt Parshall (American, 1864 - 1956). Painting depicts small figures surrounded by large trees. Trained in Paris, Parshall seems to have been influenced by artists of both the Impressionist and Barbizon schools. The painting is unsigned, but is accompanied by a letter from Douglass E. Parshall (DeWitt's son), who tentatively attributes this painting to his father. He writes, "It certainly seems to me to be his work, beyond any reasonable doubt... I'm sorry I cannot positively identify this painting of yours, although the style [and other factors relating to the painting and its framing], all would seem to indicate that this painting was by DeWitt Parshall." Painting is framed in gilt wood frame. Condition overall is good. Paint seems to have aged, as expected, and there is minor cracking, as expected. Discoloration on reverse of board. Remnants of gallery tag. 19 1/2" tall by 23 1/2" wide (opening), 20" tall by 24" wide (board), 29 1/8" by 33 1/4" by 1 3/4" (frame). Keywords: art, artist, fancy, decor, decoration, home, house, household, paint, painter
