Vermont native Violet Parkhurst, born in 1921, is best known for her incredible seascapes. Her realistic, photo-like depictions of the sea were created using richly pigmented oil paints. Foamy waves, moonlit seas, and the sun shining off the water remain popular elements of Violet Parkhurst's prints. Though Violet Parkhurst's oil paintings are primarily seascapes, she also painted nudes early in her career. Violet Parkhurst's artwork has been well-received, and many heads of state and famous individuals have collected her art, including her biggest fan, Clark Gable. The play of light and shadow in Violet Parkhurst prints continue to draw the attention of nautical-themed art enthusiasts. In 2005, November 3rd became Violet Parkhurst Day in Los Angeles, a nod to her artistic contribution to the city.     Violet Parkhurst (1921-2008) Signed Realist Seascape Oil on Board Painting. This is an original work of art by international seascape artist Violet Parkhurst. Violet Parkhurst was born in Derby Line, VT, April 26, 1921, and attended the School of Practical Arts in Boston, and Baylor College in Waco, Texas and the Museum in Rio de Janeiro. This internationally acclaimed woman artist is no mild illustrator, nor is she a dabbler in prosaic landscapes. Instead she specializes in two genres into which women painters have rarely ventured, seascapes and nudes, and certainly not with the force, action and vibrancy she brings to her work. Her legendary seascapes are collected by over five million people around the world including four US Presidents, two Presidents of China, King of Saudi Arabia, and a host of celebrities including her very first admirer Clark Gable. Parkhurst paintings are on permanent collection in dozens of museums around the world including the China National Museum of Fine Art and the Stockholm Museum. She has also been on exhibit in the Louvre and Prado Museums. In 2002 she was honored as the first western artist to have paintings in the collections of The Great Hall of the Peoples Republic of China and the China National Museum of Fine Arts. In recognition of her lifetime achievement Violet is listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in International Art, Community Leaders, Noteworthy Americans and American Artists of Renown.     Violet Miriam Parkhurst was born in Derby Line, Vermont on April 26, 1921. Parkhurst studied at the School of Practical Arts in Boston, won a scholarship to the Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, spent one year at Baylor College in Texas, and finished her formal training at Los Angeles City College. Some of her early paintings are of Brazilians during the period she lived in Natal. She later became famous for her realistic seascapes. The book, "Parkhurst on Seascapes" was published in 1972 by Walter Foster.
