    Madhvi PAREKH (Inde, 1942) Paysage animé, (19)88 Huile sur toile 40 x 50 cm Signé et daté en bas au milieu *** Oil on canvas Signed and dated in the middle "Provenance: Collection particulière de Mme M., France, acquis directement auprès de l'artiste en 1989. *** Originally from a village in Gujarat, Madhvi is a self-taught artist who only began painting in 1964, at the instigation of her husband, the artist Manu Parekh. During her first pregnancy, he gave her an exercise book inspired by the drawings of Paul Klee, marking the starting point of her artistic journey. Her works draw their strength from an imagination shaped by her childhood memories: family rituals such as rangolis, traditional tales and simple village life. Imbued with folk motifs and legends, she enriches her compositions with imaginary characters, creating a subtle balance between abstraction and figuration, where rhythm and repetition play a key role. A retrospective of her work, presented in New Delhi and Mumbai has also travelled to New York. She currently lives and works in New Delhi.

"Originaire d'un village du Gujarat, Madhvi est une artiste autodidacte qui n'a débuté la peinture qu'en 1964, sous l'impulsion de son mari, l'artiste Manu Parekh. Lors de sa première grossesse, celui-ci lui offre un livre d'exercices inspiré des dessins de Paul Klee, marquant ainsi le point de départ de son parcours artistique. Ses œuvres puisent leur force dans un imaginaire façonné par ses souvenirs d'enfance : les rituels familiaux tels que les rangolis, les contes traditionnels et la vie simple du village. Imprégnée de motifs et de légendes folkloriques, elle enrichit ses compositions de personnages imaginaires, créant un équilibre subtil entre abstraction et figuration, où le rythme et la répétition jouent un rôle clé. Une rétrospective de son travail présentée à New Delhi et Mumbai, a également voyagé jusqu’à New York. Elle vit et travaille actuellement à New Delhi.
