    Whaling aquatint, Page, William (American,

    Est: $300 - $500

    1811-1885), Hulsart, Cornelius B. Capturing a Sperm Whale. Print is respectfully inscribed by Cornelius B. Hulsart, who lost an arm on board their ship Superior while engaged in the whale fishery in the Pacific Ocean. Hand colored aquatint by John Hill (1770-1850). After painting by Page, this is believed to be 1st American made whaling prints. Some toning, no margins visible. Sight size 9" high x 12 3/4" wide. Nicely framed and under glass, overall 18" high x 22" wide. Deaccessioned from the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
