    William Padgett (1851-1904), oil on canvas, The Fallen Roadside Shrine (sister picture to the one sold in 1998 by Bonhams entitled 'The Road Side Shine 1889' lot 193 for £700), signed lower left. 15 x 30" (38.1 x 76.2 cm). Footnote: Landscape painter; lived in London, Hampton and Twickenham. Exhib. At RA 1881-98, SS , GG, NG and elsewhere. Titles at R.A. ' Winter on the Marsh ', ' The Old Mill', ' In Flanders ' etc.' Wood, Christopher, The Dictionary of Victorian Artists 3rd ed., revised, Woodbridge, 1995. 'Padgett lived in London, Hampton and Twickenham. His works include Winter on the Marsh and The Old Mill. From 1881 to 1898 he exhibited in London at venues including the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Grosvenor Gallery, New Gallery, Ridley Art Club, Society of British Artists, a society which elected JW its President in 1886, and International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers, a society that formed in 1898 with JW ( James Whistler ) as its President. He also exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery. Padgett was among those included by William Christian Symons in initial dinner preparations for the Criterion dinner, held on 1 May 1889 to congratulate JW on being made an honorary member of the Royal Academy in Munich.'
