      Roy Oxalde,

      Est: £1,500 - £2,000

Roy Oxalde,  British 1929-2014 -  Untitled;  oil on canvas, signed on the reverse 'R Oxlade', 96.5 x 96 cm (unframed) (ARR)  Provenance: private collection, purchased directly from the artist, and thence by descent Note: like his wife, Rose Wylie (lot 526), Oxlade paints from everyday people, places and objects but to reference them not imitate them. Oxlade studied at Goldsmith's, and later was taught by David Bomberg at his famous evening classes. Twenty years later, he took on research on Bomberg, publishing a Royal College Monograph on the artist in 1981, all the while painting full time. His later works reflect an interest and respect for Phillip Guston. Solo exhibitions of his work were held at the Vancouver Art Gallery, 1963, Odette Gilbert Gallery, 1985–7–8, Art Space Gallery, 2001, 2003 and 2004 and posthumously, Allison Jacques Gallery in 2018.
