    Adriaen Jansz van Ostade (1610 - 1685) presumably, followers. Netherlands School – “Sight”. “Sight” from the “Five Senses” series. Netherlands School, 17th century. Oil, wood, size 32 x 25 cm (12 2/3 x 9 3/4 inches). This genre scene, executed in a style characteristic of the ‘Little Dutch’, depicts catching fleas in a man's hair, which requires good eyesight. ‘Sight’ is a scene from the “Five Senses” series painted by the famous artist Adriaan van Ostade, the original is now considered lost. The painting presented is superior to the copies, making it the most likely candidate to be called an original painting among the options available today.

In seiner rechten ein Bierkrug, um den er zu füllen bittet. Die Wirtin jedoch erklärt dem Bauern in ihrem Blick, er habe erstmal zu bezahlen. Links im Hintergrund sitzt ein Mann am Tisch, ebenfalls mit einem Krug. Ein typisches Sujet von van Ostade und seinen Assistenten in Haarlem. Beigebraune Farbigkeit.
