Cecil Osborne. British 1909-1996- . St Pancras & Kings Cross; Camden, Highgate & Hamps

      Est: £1,500 - £2,500

Cecil Osborne, British 1909-1996- St Pancras & Kings Cross; Camden, Highgate & Hampstead; and Bloomsbury & Fitzrovia, 1964; oil on canvas, three, each signed and dated, 162x172cm, 164x178cm and 166x176cm respectively (3) (ARR) Provenance: St Pancras Borough Council Note: Cecil Osborne, who exhibited with the East London Group, created this triptych of panels as murals to decorate the small Assembly Room of St Pancras Town Hall, now Camden Town Hall, on Euston Road. The three works were completed over a number of years and include fascinating details of different neighbourhoods in the former Borough of St Pancras, many of which still adorn this area of London such as Kenwood House, while others are now lost such as the Doric Arch at Euston Station. Osborne used his own children as models, as well as the children from the Bisto advertisement. The triptych was later moved to the lending library on Brecknock Road, near Kentish Town, and later disappeared before reemerging at auction in Bayswater in the 1990s. They have been in a private collection since that time.
