      * JACK ORR (SCOTTISH 1888-1961) THE BATHER oil on board, signed 45.5cm x 60.5cm Note : Jack Orr was a painter in oil and watercolour of portraits, landscapes and animals, especially birds. He was the brother of Monro and Stewart Orr. He trained at the Collegiate School, Glasgow and Hospitalfield, Arbroath. He illustrated a number of children's books including Periwinkle and The Farmer's Boy. He became head of the College of Commercial Art in London, resigning at the outbreak of WWII in 1939. His watercolours of parrots and exotic birds are often large and painted in a dashing style of silk or linen in the manner of Joseph Crawhall. He completed a number of sporting subjects including lawn bowls ('A Good Delivery', 1919) and a coaching scene 'Happy Reunions at the Inn'. He exhibited at the RA, RSA, RSW, and the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. He is represented in the Edinburgh City collection.
