        Est: €1,000 - €1,200

PETER OPSVIK (Stranda, Norway, 1939). Gravity Balance" chair for STOKKE, ca. 1980. Ash wood and black leather. Height adjustable armrests. Stokke (Norway) label on the back. Use marks. Leather with light stains. Measurements: 120 x 71 x 132 cm. The Gravity Balance chair responds to a unique design in aesthetics and functionality, resolved with lucidity. Peter Opsvik designed it with the intention of creating a chair that allows relaxation but also productivity. Its four angles allow for postures ranging from kneeling to full reclining. You can use it as a kneeling chair when leaning forward and shift your weight slightly backwards to assume an upright position, placing your feet on the floor or on the shin pads. The soft leather seat, backrest and armrests harmonise with the warm, malleable wooden frame, patterned after the best Scandinavian design. Peter Opsvik works together with seven other people in his studio and, although most of the ideas come from him, they are turned into designs and products that can be industrialised through teamwork. His designs focus on interior design and ergonomics, providing environmentally friendly solutions. Among his most famous creations was the Tripp Trapp, a multifunctional children's highchair that took the Norwegian to the top of Scandinavian design in the twentieth century. Throughout his career as a designer, Peter Opsvik has been awarded numerous prizes: the 2013 Red Dot award "Best of the Best" for Nomi High chair, the Red Dot award 2011 (for Capisco Puls), the IF design gold award 2011 (for Capisco Puls) and the Norwegian Design Award for Excellence 2011. Opsvik was awarded the classic Norwegian design excellence award for Tripp Trapp chairs in 1996 and Håg Capisco. In 2008 he was awarded the Anders Jahre cultural and Nordic Design Award (Nordiska Designpriset). Opsvik has also received Torsten & Wanjas Söderbergs design award in Sweden for its pioneering, variable furniture and furniture. In 2013 Norsk Forma (The Foundation for Design and Architecture in Norway) awarded Opsvik Jacob-prisen for the year 2012. His works have been exhibited in museums all over the world, such as the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (Gent) in 1999, the Deutsches Museum (Munich), The Lighthouse (Glasgow) as well as the Design Museum in London. Some of his other exhibitions have been shown at The West Norway Museum of Applied Art, Bergen 1996; at Kunstlerhaus (Artisthouse) mit Galerie, Göttingen 1990, at Gallerie V.I.A, Paris 1990, at Applied Art Museum, Oslo 1986, in New York, Houston or in Chicago and Tokyo in 1982.

PETER OPSVIK (Stranda, Norway, 1939). Globe Garden Chair, 1980s. Beech wood and dyed wool fabric.

        Est: €1,800 - €2,000

PETER OPSVIK (Stranda, Norway, 1939). Globe Garden Chair, 1980s. Beech wood and dyed wool fabric. Dimensions: 100 x 60 x 70 cm. More than thirty years have passed since Peter Opsvik launched his Globe Garden design, a completely innovative chair whose casual structure became a landmark of Scandinavian design. The Globe Garden, like the other creations Peter Opsvik is still working on today, was conceived as a challenge to standardization and the established norms of the society in which we live: in a world in which the triumph of technology has led to a completely sedentary lifestyle, in which we spend hours and hours sitting in front of the computer screen and in which a "unique" posture is imposed on us as the correct posture, the Globe Garden was born as a challenge to convention, by breaking the rules of "how to sit well" or "sit correctly". As the designer himself argues, it should not be forgotten that our ancestors lived in trees. Thus, the chair can be understood as the branches of a tree that continue through the legs and become supporting roots. Its high seats ensure a better perspective and better ergonomics, and make it perfect for any dynamic and functional everyday space. Peter Opsvik works together with seven other people in his studio and, although most ideas come from him, they become industrializable designs and products thanks to teamwork. His designs focus on interior design and ergonomics, providing environmentally friendly solutions. Among his most famous creations was the Tripp Trapp, a multifunctional children's highchair that took the Norwegian to the top of Scandinavian design in the 20th century. Throughout his career as a designer, Peter Opsvik has been awarded numerous prizes: the Red Dot award 2013 "Best of the Best" for Nomi High chair, the Red Dot award 2011 (for Capisco Puls), the IF design gold award 2011 (for Capisco Puls) and the Norwegian Design Award for Excellence 2011. Peter Opsvik, ‘Garden Chair’, Stokke, Norway, 1985

        Est: €3,000 - €3,900

Wood, leather, upholstered Norway, 1985 Peter Opsvik (b. 1939) – Norwegian industrial and furniture designer, jazz musician Manufacturer: Stokke AS (founded 1932) – Norwegian manufacturer of children’s furniture Dimensions: height 175 cm, diameter of the foot 90 cm Very good condition The ‘Garden Chair’ is more a sculpture than a common seating furniture. It fetches up to €14,000 at international design auctions Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 6.000 Euro The ‘Garden Chair’ grows out of the floor like a tree with fruits. At first appearance it is not a very comfortable furniture but one sits very well once you climbed up. Peter Opsvik wanted to revolutionize the common way of sitting and designed the ‘Garden Chair’ as an extraordinary as well as ergonomic seating sculpture. Condition: The high chair is in very good condition with slight traces of use. It is 175 cm in height and the foot is 90 cm in diameter. Peter Opsvik (b. 1939) Peter Opsvik, a native of Stranda, began his artistic education at the age of 20 at the Bergens Kunsthåndverksskole. In 1964, he graduated with a diploma from the Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustrieskole (SHKS) in Oslo. Opsvik began studying again at the Folkwangschule of Design in Essen in the ergonomics class of Ulrich Burandt. Before becoming a self-employed designer, Opsvik worked for the Tandberg Radiofabrik as an industrial designer. Afterwards, he founded the Peter Opsvik AS Studio in Oslo. As part of his ergonomic seating furniture he designed the children’s’ high chair Tripp Trapp and the Balans chair series with tilt forward seat where the knees are supported by cushions.
