Myron Angelo Oliver (1891-1967) American O/B. Possibly Gloucester MA. Born in Fulton, KS on June 16, 1891. At age two Oliver moved to Monterey, CA where his father established an art supplies-framing shop. He began painting as a child and studied locally with Lester Boronda and William M. Chase. In 1916 he graduated from the art department at Stanford University, had further instruction from Armin Hansen and Clark Hobart, and then went to NYC to study at the ASL under Frank V. DuMond. His art career was interrupted while serving in the Army during WWI. After marrying art student Dorothy Welsh, the Olivers returned to Monterey in 1923 and helped run the family business. In 1926 he abandoned painting to devote his energies to cabinet work, gold leaf frames, furniture and other crafts. As an oil painter, his specialties were Italian cityscapes, New York scenes, and California landscapes. Oliver served on the board of directors of the Carmel Art Ass'n from its inception in 1927 and was president five times. He died in Monterey on Feb. 19, 1967. Member: Monterey History and AA; Monterey Guild. Exh: San Francisco Art Association, 1924; Oakland Art Gallery, 1924. In: Orange Co. (CA) Museum; Monterey Peninsula Museum. Overall Size: 11 x 9 in.
