San Francisco, Cal. Creek Steamer Gold, $25.00. Measures 11.7 inches high, 9.5 inches wide. Frame measures 17.6 inches high, 15.5 inches wide. Depicts a tug boat at full steam pulling away from the dock. In good condition. Otis Oldfield (1890-1969) was an American artist known for his works in the medium of printmaking. He was born in Sacramento, California, and attended the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, where he studied under the influential artist and teacher, Stanton Macdonald-Wright. Oldfield's early works were influenced by the style of the Mexican muralists, particularly Diego Rivera, and he often incorporated political and social commentary into his art. Later in his career, he turned to more abstract and surrealistic styles. Oldfield was particularly known for his prints, which he produced using a variety of techniques, including woodcut, linocut, and lithography. His prints often featured bold, graphic designs and strong contrasts of light and dark. Oldfield's work was exhibited extensively during his lifetime, and he won numerous awards for his art. His prints are included in the collections of several major museums, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
