Giovanni Odazzi (Roma 1663 - 1731) Bozzetto per Annunciazione Olio su tela 60,5 x 40,5 cm Il bozzetto mostra nel registro superiore l'influenza compositiva di Giovan Battista Gaulli detto il Baciccio, mentre nel registro inferiore, l'Arcangelo e la Vergine sono riferibili ai modi di Carlo Maratta (o Maratti). Questo particolare intreccio stilistico ci conduce a pensare che l'autore possa essere Giovanni Odazzi che tra Sei e Settecento adattò il suo fare pittorico, nato in seno all'atelier di Baciccio, alla più pacata e classicista lezione del Maratta. Odazzi si formò con Ciro Ferri assertore della lezione di Pietro da Cortona, in seguito fu tra i migliori allievi di Baciccio. Tra il XVII e il XVIII secolo fece propria l'arte di Carlo Maratta, che lo condusse a moderare il suo impeto barocco a favore di un'espressione più meditata, classicista e ispirata. Ebbe ampio successo nella sua città raggiungendo il culmine della fama durante il pontificato di Clemente XI quando operò in importanti cantieri di San Clemente e san Giovanni in Laterano. Inoltre, dopo la morte di Carlo Maratta, con Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chiari e Francesco Trevisani fu tra i massimi esponenti del panorama pittorico dell'Urbe. This particular stylistic interweaving leads us to think that the author may be Giovanni Odazzi who, between the 17th and 18th centuries, adapted his painting style, born in Baciccio's atelier, to Maratta's more subdued and classicist lesson.

Auf diesem Gemälde sitzt die Hl. Familie direkt unterhalb der Säule und Josef reicht dem lebhaften Kind ein reifes, rot leuchtendes Kirschenpaar. Odazzi war ein Schüler von Ciro Ferri und Cornelis Blomaert, arbeitete danach bei Giovanni Battista Gaulli (Bacciccio); schließlich ging er zu Carlo Maratta, bei dem Odazzi seine Kunst weiterentwickelte. Zu den weiteren Einflüssen auf Odazzis Stil zählt Raffael, den man im 18. Jh. für die Sanftheit seiner Figuren sehr bewunderte. 1705 wurde Odazzi Mitglied der Congregazione dei Virtuosi al Pantheon und 1706 Mitglied der Accademia di San Luca in Rom. In den Jahren danach erhielt Odazzi eine Reihe von bedeutenden Aufträgen für Gemälde und Fresken in Kirchen. Nach dem Tod Marattas (1713) übernahm Odazzi eine Führungsrolle in der römischen Schule des Spätbarock und Rokoko, gab der italienischen Kunst des 18. Jhs. wichtige Impulse. Eines der wiederkehrenden Motive in Odazzis Oeuvre war die Ruhe auf der Flucht nach Ägypten, die er in unterschiedlichsten Versionen malte. Öl/Lwd.; 48 cm x 36 cm. Rahmen. DEM JESUSKIND WERDEN DIE MARTERWERKZEUGE GEREICHT Öl auf Kupfer. 38 x 30,5 cm. Ungerahmt. Anbei ein Gutachten von Alessandro Delpriori, Matelica, ohne Datum. In Kopie. Inmitten einer Landschaft, die rechts von einem Baum und links von einem Viadukt abgeschlossen wird die Dreieckskomposition mit der Heiligen Familie und Engeln. Christus sitzt auf dem Schoß Mariens in der einen Hand ein kleines Kreuz haltend, in mit der anderen nach seinen Marterwerkzeugen greifend und somit auf seinen Kreuzestod verweisend. In leuchtender Polychromität die Kompositionen seines Lehrers Maratta nachempfindend. In seinem Gutachten verweist auf mehrere Vergleichsbeispiele. (14008911) (13)

Provenienz: Schweizer Privatsammlung. Francesco Petrucci, der die Autorschaft Giovanni Odazzis anhand einer Fotografie bestätigt und dem wir für seine Hilfe bei der Katalogisierung danken, erkennt in dieser Heiligen Familie mit Putti in einer Landschaft ein bedeutendes Spätwerk des Künstlers. Es weist die künstlerische Nähe zu seinem Lehrmeister Baciccio (1639–1709) sowie den Einfluss Carlo Marattas (1625–1713) auf, der eine prominente Rolle in der spätbarocken römischen Malerei des frühen 18. Jahrhunderts innehatte. Als stilistischer Vergleich ist das Gemälde "Ruhe auf der Flucht nach Ägypten" von Giovanni Odazzi zu nennen, welches sich im Walters Art Museum in Baltimore befindet (Inv.-Nr. 37.1122).

Odazzi was a student of Ciro Ferri (1633–1689) and Cornelis Bloemaert (approx. 1603–1692), he worked under Giovanni Battista Gaulli (1639–1709) and Carlo Maratta (1625–1713). After Maratta's death, he was one of the leading painters of the Roman Rococo. He was a member of the Congregazione dei Virtuosi al Pantheon and the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. The painting enchants with its harmonious composition, as well as the light direction and the coloring, which create the mystical mood. To the aged, kneeling, Franz von Paula, Maria appears sitting on clouds and with the baby Jesus on her lap. She is wearing a red robe and a blue coat. With her head turned, she looks down graciously on the pleading saint. The naked child has spread his arms. An engraving by Michel Lasne based on a design by Peter Paul Rubens shows what could happen in the following (Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, inv.no.RP-P-OB-75.839): Maria presents the baby Jesus to Franz von Paula and thereby grants him a unio mystica. The subject of the handing over of the child was apparently from St. Francis on St. Franz transferred from Paula. The cherubs on the right in the picture hold the sign of the order. According to legend, the archangel Franz von Paula presented a sign with the inscription "Charitas" (love), which shone like the sun, as an order sign and said: "Franciscus, you will win in this sign." The hermit Franz von Paula canonized in 1519 (1416-1507) was the founder of the Pauline Order.
