  • Susanne Nyberg Oil on Canvas Painting

Susanne Nyberg Oil on Canvas Painting

    Est: $400 - $600

Title is Sonoran Escape. 18" by 24" unframed. 24" by 29 1/2" framed. Susanne Nyberg (Born 1953) was active/lived in Arizona. Susanne Nyberg is known for Desert landscape. As the daughter of a professional artist, Susanne has been making art all her life. She grew up in rural Massachusetts and later moved to Washington, D.C. In Boston, Susanne received her formal training at the Art Institute, and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts. After the move to Washington, D.C., she studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. However, the greatest influence on her painting style developed from her long friendship and mentoring with the prominent wildlife and landscape painter, Bill Freeman, whom she met when she moved to Arizona early in her career. A professional artist for over 30 years, Ms. Nyberg is well known for her realistic plein air oil and palette knife landscape paintings of the southwest. Susanne and her husband, Bob, live in a scenic small Arizona town aptly named Carefree. Because Arizona is so rich in dramatic scenery, Susanne has many truly great places to paint. Often she paints from her front yard when the fleeting sunset light on the nearby mountains is at its peak of vibrant color. Susanne has made thousands of pieces of art, and had numerous solo and group shows over her career. She’s displayed her works in galleries from Chicago, to New Mexico, to Los Angeles. However, the artist has cut back on the frenetic pace and commitments this widespread exposure entailed. She is currently represented by galleries in Scottsdale, Sedona, and Tucson in her adopted home state. Because Arizona has such spectacular landscapes and great weather, it is a magnet for tourism and out of state art collectors. Her art is displayed in many corporate and private collections worldwide including; Donald Trump Hotels, Giant Oil, Leggett & Platt, and the R.D. Offut Company. Authors such as Larry McMurty have used her paintings on their book covers. In addition to making landscapes, Ms. Nyberg also enjoys non-objective art. A few years ago she started exploring ways to combine her passion for minerals and gems with abstract painting. Years of experimentation lead her to invent a unique new art form she calls mineral and gem paintings. Susanne has always been fascinated by the textures, intricate patterns, and lustrous colors of prime mineral specimens and gems. The collector quality specimens used in her paintings add a rich sculptural aspect to them while acting as powerful focal points of the compositions. The colors and designs of these pieces are carefully planned to compliment and celebrate the minerals and gems they display. Susanne remains enchanted by the southwest landscapes, and the minerals from the land. They provide her with endless creative possibilities. Fortunately for her Arizona has an abundance of both.

1980 Susanne Nyberg Painting - Sedona Desert

    Est: $400 - $600

Susanne Nyberg (American, b. 1953). "Sedona View" oil on canvas, ca. 1980s. Signed "S. Nyberg" on lower right. A stunning landscape painting of Sedona, an Arizona desert near Flagstaff, created by American artist Susanne Nyberg. The composition is delineated in Nyberg's signature realistic yet expressive style with meticulous palette knife work. Notice the dramatic pink desert light illuminating the mountains perhaps at sunrise or sunset, as well as the more diffuse light over the desert brush delineated in various shades of sage green in the foreground. According to Nyberg's artist statement, "Susanne Nyberg’s artistic inspiration comes from the Arizona mountains where she lives. Whether she is painting realistic landscapes, or abstract paintings that incorporate minerals and gems mined from the mountains, the natural beauty of her surroundings compels her to create art." Size: 15.875" L x 19.875" W (40.3 cm x 50.5 cm) Susanne Nyberg was raised in Massachusetts, later moved to Washington, D.C., and then to Arizona. In Boston, she studied at the Art Institute and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and in Washington, D.C., she studied at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. She and her husband have lived in the scenic Arizona desert in a small town called Carefree for most of their lives. 1980s Susanne Nyberg Painting - Bobcat in the Wild

    Est: $600 - $800

Susanne Nyberg (American, b. 1953). Oil on canvas, ca. 1980s. Signed "S. Nyberg" on lower right. A mesmerizing painting of a bobcat in the wild by American artist Susanne Nyberg. The composition is delineated with Nyberg's expressive brushwork in a pleasing color palette of warm earth tones and vibrant greens. Whereas landscapes encompass the majority of Nyberg's oeuvre, in this composition, she chose to focus on a single wondrous creature inhabiting the land. Interestingly, bobcats can run up to 30 miles per hour and they also prefer to take cover wherever they live; so it's a wonder that Nyberg caught a privileged glimpse of this wild feline! Size: 12" L x 16" W (30.5 cm x 40.6 cm) Susanne Nyberg was raised in Massachusetts, later moved to Washington, D.C., and then to Arizona. In Boston, she studied at the Art Institute and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and in Washington, D.C., she studied at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. This said, perhaps her greatest influence was artist Bill Freeman, the prominent Western landscape painter whom she met when she moved to Arizona early in her career. Freeman would become her mentor and close friend. Nyberg is best known for her impressively realistic oil and palette knife plein air landscape paintings. She and her husband have lived in the scenic Arizona desert in a small town called Carefree for most of their lives. According to Nyberg's artist statement, "Susanne Nyberg’s artistic inspiration comes from the Arizona mountains where she lives. Whether she is painting realistic landscapes, or abstract paintings that incorporate minerals and gems mined from the mountains, the natural beauty of her surroundings compels her to create art." Signed Susan Nyberg Painting - Mountain River, ca. 1980

    Est: $1,000 - $1,500

Susanne Nyberg (American, b. 1953). Oil on canvas, ca. 1980. Signed on lower left. A stunning landscape painting depicting a river running through an evergreen forest below a mountain range by American artist Susanne Nyberg. Nyberg captured the drama of the scene with her expressive brushwork and impasto. Whitewater cascades over boulders, and a blasted tree trunk ravaged by time and weather has fallen, bridging one side of the river with the other. All is delineated in a beautiful color palette - shades of azure blue and slate grey; forest and spring green; sienna, umber, and yellow ochre; aqua, teal, and creamy white. Daylight dapples across the landscape, and one can almost hear the gurgling of the river rapids. Size: 16" L x 20" W (40.6 cm x 50.8 cm) Susanne Nyberg was raised in Massachusetts, later moved to Washington, D.C., and then to Arizona. In Boston, she studied at the Art Institute and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and in Washington, D.C. she studied at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. Whether she is painting realistic landscapes, or abstract paintings that incorporate minerals and gems mined from the mountains, the natural beauty of her surroundings compels her to create art." Signed Susanne Nyberg Painting of a Bobcat (1980s)

    Est: $800 - $1,200

Size: 12" L x 16" W (30.5 cm x 40.6 cm) Susanne Nyberg was raised in Massachusetts, later moved to Washington, D.C., and then to Arizona. Susanne Nyberg (American, b. 1953). Oil on canvas, 1982. Signed and dated on lower right. A charming campfire scene painted by American artist Susanne Nyberg.
