Hilary Nunan Sold at Auction Prices

Colour, texture and a love of nature constantly play a part in the work of Hilary Nunan. She graduated from the Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork in 1997 with a first class honours degree in Fine Art. She has nurtured the use of mixed materials in her work which include a combination of natural fibres and acrylic colour. The fibres are mulched down into a fine paper pulp, incorporating acrylic colour and impasto medium. This fibrous mix is applied, to a 100% cotton canvas support, either by brush or pallet knife, at times manipulating it into a thread like quality. Layers of thick rich impasto are scored and marked, overlaid in part by thin layers of translucent and opaque colour. The finished piece is very much dependent on the high quality of raw materials used.

She is influenced by her love of nature and draws inspiration from her immediate surroundings, a rich tapestry of both rural and seaside delights. There is a constant marriage between her environment and material which convey an overall organic quality to her work. Having exhibited internationally, USA, Australia, UK, France, Germany and Ireland, her work now forms part of many public and private collections.
