Si dedica inizialmente all'affresco, lavorando in diverse chiese dell'area veneziana e padovana, producendo opere caratterizzate da una pittura fresca e brillante. Per quanto riguarda la pittura da cavalletto, Stefano Novo si perfezionerÃ nei soggetti di genere, prevalentemente ambientati nelle strade e nelle calli veneziane. I suoi dipinti presentano una pennellata filamentosa e una grande perizia tecnica, accompagnate da una tavolozza variegata e luminosa. Il pittore esordisce all'Esposizione di Torino del 1884, partecipa poi a diverse altre rassegne a Firenze, Bologna, Milano, Palermo e naturalmente Venezia. Nel corso della sua carriera, espone anche a Chicago, Londra e a Glasgow.

The Italian born artist Stefano Novo (1862-1927) excelled in painting attractive Venetian beauties, either daydreaming, selling flowers or looking out over the city streets from their balcony. He also painted faces or "vedute" of the city, such as St. Mark's Square, the Rialto Bridge and the gondolas in the lagoon. This makes his work part of the so-called Venetian genre, which was particularly popular in the 19th century due to the rise of tourism in Europe. Born in Cavarzere, Novo attended the Venice Academy as a student of the genre painters Pompeo Molmenti and Eugène de Blaas. The material expression and the light in the work are exceptionally beautiful. The painting was recently discovered in a private collection and was then professionally cleaned and varnished. The artwork was made in 1902 in Venice (bottom center) and signed bottom left. #Realist Romantic Italy Impressionist Fine-art Venice
