He was a professor at the Kunstgewerbeschule Burg Giebichenstein in Halle from 1921 until 1924. In 1928, he moved from Halle to Berlin where he was part of the Free Association of the Artists of Berlin in 1955. This charcoal drawing depicts a maritime scene – several fishermen are working a boat. The background stays simply slightly suggested in this charcoal drawing, while the contours of the fisher and the boat are surrounded by powerful, securely drawn and black lines. The drawing convinces in its compositional coherence. Of compositional similarity is the artist’s watercolor ‘Cutter at Land’ from the same year, 1943. The drawing is monogrammed lower left in charcoal ‘JM’ and inscribed verso on the mat in pencil ‘Johannes Niemeyer / Fischer am Boot / Kohle 1943’. The drawing is mounted with adhesive stripes under a mat. The mat shows foxing and the drawing shows slight foxing. The sheet displays handling creases. The dimensions of the sheet are 38 x 52.5 cm and the dimensions of the mat are 49 x 64.7 cm. (tm) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
