Nickelen P[…] Fecit’ Dimensions: 37 x 38 cm Gilt wooden frame: 57 x 60 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Switzerland Fine fruit still life with grapes, peaches and apricots Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. The present fruit still life is attributed to the Dutch painter Jacoba Maria (Troost) van Nickelen. The fruits, including grapes, peaches and apricots, are draped on a wooden table, which is set against a landscape backdrop. The soft shapes and highlights of the three-dimensional fruit are particularly striking in this fine still life. Condition: The painting is mounted in a decorative gilt wooden frame and indistinctly signed lower left, ‘J. V. Nickelen P[…] Fecit (?)’. The frame bears the artist’s name ‘J. M. v. Nickelen’. The painting is in good overall condition, showing light framing marks and a patina of age. A small piece of wood is missing lower right. Inspection under UV light reveals small areas of retouching along the edges. The frame shows some wear. The overall dimensions, framed, are 57 x 60 cm. The panel measures 37 x 38 cm. Jacoba Maria (Troost) van Nickelen (c. 1690-1749) Jacoba Maria van Nickelen was born in Haarlem into a family painters her grandfather decorated church interiors and her father was a landscape painter. She created primarily fruit and flower still lifes. Around 1712 she moved to Düsseldorf upon the request of the painter Herman van der Mijn. Her she met her future husband, the artist Willem Troost, and was active at the court of Johann Wilhelm II, Elector Palatine, who employed several artists including Rachel Ruysch and Adriana Spilberg.
