Bronze with dark patina Hubert Netzer (1865-1939) – German sculptor Monogrammed ‘HN’ in the cast on the plinth Dimensions: 11.3 x 26 x 7.5 cm Condition: The bronze is in very good condition. Hubert Netzer (1865-1939) In 1879, Netzer began an apprenticeship at his step-fathers gilding, decoration and painting business and a few years later (1885), he was employed by sculptor Josef Beyrer in Munich as assistant woodcarver. Afterwards, he worked as an assistant to the sculptor Johannes Hoffart, who urged him to attend the academy and so Netzer studied there from 1890-93 as a pupil of Wilhelm von Rümann. From 1894 onwards, he worked in his own studio in Munich and produced some outstanding large sculptures, including the Narzissbrunnen. In 1903, Netzer was appointed royal professor by Prinzregent Luitpold and in 1911 was the Düsseldorfer Kunstgewerbeschule called. As a professor of sculpture, he became member of the artists' association Malkasten. Among his pupils were Arno Breker, Hans Meyers, Ernst Gottschalk and Curt Beckmann.
