    NERENZ, WILHELM Berlin 1804 - 1871 Title: The Young Hawk Bearer. Technique: Oil on wood. Measurement: 26 x 18,5cm. Notation: Monogrammed and dated lower right: 18 WN(Lig.) 35. Frame/Pedestal: Framed. Provenance: Private ownership, Belgium. "Technically and compositionally on the same high level that distinguishes almost all Schadow students, Nerenz's works stand out for their particular attention to detail, combined with an extraordinary mastery of the representation of materiality". This is how Siegfrid Weiß describes Wilhelm Nerenz from Berlin in the encyclopaedia of the Düsseldorf school of painting. He followed his teacher Wilhelm Schadow to the Düsseldorf Academy in 1833-36, where the small and extremely fine panel shown here was created during these years.

N. 1854.’ Dimensions: 19.5 x 26 cm Frame: 29.5 x 37 cm Good condition  Condition: In good condition, consistent with age. There are small marks with tiny losses of paint, where the frame has rubbed. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered areas of retouching to the figure and the background. The stretcher measures 19.5 x 26 cm. The frame shows light traces of age and wear. It measures 29.5 x 37 cm. Wilhelm Nerenz (1804-1871) Wilhelm Nerenz followed his teacher Wilhelm Schadow to Düsseldorf, but he finally returned to Berlin, where he established himself as a renowned genre painter. Between 1843 and 1846 and from 1847 he was mainly active in Italy. Many of his motifs were reproduced as engravings and lithographs.
