    A. ( Van der Neer) dit NERANUS (vers 1639-1642) Huile sur panneau représentant une foule se pressant devant le bûcher. Malgré les recherches du cabinet Turquin il n' a pas été possible d'identifier avec précision la scène représentée mais comme leur a aimablement suggéré Monsieur Fred Meijer il s'agit probablement du supplice d'un hérétique, scène contemporaine plus qu'historique. De nombreuses scènes de ce type ont été dessinées, et gravées, par Jan Luyken (1649-1712) : Anneken HENDRIKS attachée sur une échelle et brûlée à Amsterdam, Bellinde de Corzora au bûcher, Polycarpe brulé, bûcher de Arnoldus ? Autant de sujets traités par l'artiste qui, après avoir été tenté par les ordres vers l'âge de vingt ans se tourne vers des sujets moralisateurs. (Van der Neer) known as NERANUS (c. 1639-1642) Oil on panel representing a crowd pressing in front of the stake. Despite research by the Turquin firm, it was not possible to identify the scene represented with precision, but as Mr. Fred Meijer kindly suggested to them, it is probably the torture of a heretic, a more contemporary than historical scene. Many such scenes were drawn, and engraved, by Jan Luyken (1649-1712): Anneken HENDRIKS tied to a ladder and burned in Amsterdam, Bellinde de Corzora at the stake, Polycarp burnt, stake by Arnoldus? So many subjects treated by the artist who, after having been tempted by orders towards age twenty-year-old turns to moralizing subjects. Signed and dated lower right. Dimensions: 47 x 64 cm. Old restorations.
