JOSEF NAVRÁTIL 1798 - 1865 - SAILING BOAT ON AN ALPINE LAKE

    Est: -

From the opinion of PhDr. Nadězda Blažíčková-Horová: "The sailboat on the alpine lake under the high mountains on the horizon is an undeniably beautiful work by the painter Josef Navrátil. Navrátil painted many similar works, all of which are characterised by their multi-plan spatial design and impressive colouring. Navrátil searched for and found his subjects both on graphic models and on his frequent travels. Navrátil practically did not date his works, so it is difficult to compile a developmental series. However, he created his Alpine scenes and views of lake landscapes with sailing ships most often in the 1940s, and in a distinctive way he continued the decorative and colourist tradition of the 18th century as represented by Norbert Grund." Framed under anti-reflective glass with UV filter. Technique: gouache, paper, Signed: sign. lower right: Jos. Nawratil

JOSEF MATEJ NAVRATIL (Czech / Bohemian 1798 - 1865) - The bubble game

    Est: -

technique: gouache on canvas | 36 x 36 cm | signature: bottom right | framed under glass Lot description This gouache by Josef Matej Navratil, one of the most important Czech painters of the 19th century, depicts two children playing, a frequent motif in European Rococo-inspired art. The work is clearly influenced by the French painter Francois Boucher, whose work was characterized by gentle, idyllic scenes often filled with playing cupids or children. Navratil, known for his wide artistic range, used the gouache technique here, which gives the work a soft, matte appearance and soft color transitions. The painting is an example of Navratil's masterful mastery of technique and his ability to transfer to the Czech environment the influences of French Rococo painting, which is characterized by lightness, playfulness and attention to detail.

JOSEF NAVRÁTIL 1798 - 1865 - FOOTBRIDGE OVER THE STREAM

    Est: -

From the expert opinion of PhDr. Nadězda Blažíčková-Horová: "The presented romantic scenery The Footbridge Over the Stream is an undisputed and excellent work by Josef Navrátil, a work which, after comparison with the painter's other works, probably belongs to the 1840s. Landscape painting constituted the most numerous part of Navrátil's surviving versatile oeuvre. Navrátil travelled frequently and constantly renewed and paraphrased his reminiscences from his travels with great grace. He sketched exclusively while travelling and painted only after his return to the studio. Navrátil was able to combine landscape elements of a realistic basis into an artistic and idealized, yet vivid and convincing natural setting." JOSEF NAVRÁTIL 1798 - 1865 - CHATEAU IN A MOUNTAINOUS LANDSCAPE

    Est: -

From the opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "If in the 1940s Navrátil preferred the gouache technique and chamber format, at the beginning of the 1950s he also created oil-painted shots of alpine mountains, valleys and lakes of medium, and exceptionally larger sizes. Navrátil found subjects both on graphic models and on on his frequent trips, especially to the Alps, he constantly changed and paraphrased them with such charm and an astonishing richness of invention and imagination that the viewer never gets tired of their similarity. The moody landscape compositions, both gouache and oil, won Navrátil universal popularity in his time, but also today they are a sought after and popular collector's item." From the expert opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "Navrátil was primarily a landscape painter and the author of many wall paintings, but in the 1950s he also turned his attention to realistically seen still lifes. The impetus was a commission from a friend Jan Chlumecký, merchant of wine, fruit and foreign spices. For display they also painted the cabinet of his delicatessen "U Itala" and two signboards on sheet metal. At the bottom of the back, inscription: Josef Navrátil, Still life with fruit from the collection of MUDr. A Engelbrecht, Teige exhibition 1931, No. 11. The presented chamber format drawing is an example of Navrátil's extraordinary ability to master the shot and create a romantically felt scenery. The leaf-covered columns that close the subject further underline the moodiness of the shot. The motif of a landscape complemented by figural staffage often appears in Navrátil's work, but the depicted theme of the figure in the cloak or corner has an unusually mystical touch for Navrátil. From the expert opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "The submitted oil Rendez-vous is an indisputable and charming work of the painter Josef Navrátil, probably from the 1840s. It is probably a wall painting to decorate one of the numerous interiors that Navrátil painted during his lifetime. With a close connection between arts and crafts, Navrátil's work belongs to the unique and specific manifestations of Czech painting of the 19th century. His painting and decorative workshop was the only one in Prague that combined craftsmanship and artistic activity. The whole scene with a girl sitting under a tree with two sheep at her feet and a kneeling young man is framed by a decorative frame and features a rococo sweet pastel color, which is typical for Navrátil. JOSEF NAVRÁTIL 1798 - 1865 - WATER MILL IN THE MOUNTAINS

    Est: -

From theexpert assessment by PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "The presented painting The Water Mill in the Mountains is an unquestionable and very beautiful work of the painter Josef Navrátil from the 1950s. Alpine mountains, their valleys and lakes predominate, later themes from northern Bohemia, the Giant Mountains and Silesia, where Navrátil took frequent trips, but also from his stays in Šumava, came in. with the buildings of a large mill in the foothills on the river bank and create a romantic feeling. The clouds in the blue sky further underline the mood of the shot. The motif of the landscape with the mill in Navrátil's work in variants often appear, but the one presented Water Mill in the mountains belongs, in my opinion, to the best examples of Navrátil's distinctive, sovereign and captivating paintings." Josef Matěj Navrátil was one of the excellent landscape painters, but he became famous mainly for his figural work. In the work Two actresses, she depicts Laura Schubert in a Rococo light composition. The lightness of his brush puts him on the verge of impressionism. His fame grew and in 1850 he became chairman of the Union of Fine Artists. Unfortunately, he later became paralyzed as a result of his illness and, despite all his talent, had to leave painting. His work inspired the work of photographer Josef Sudek. Published: Josef Navrátil, S.V.U. Mánes, 1940. Abb.160. Technique: Oil on cardboard

Josef Navrátil (1798-1865) MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE WITH STAFFAGE. After 1850. Oil on canvas, 55x69 cm, signed lower left “Jos: Nawratil“. Framed. Condition A/B. Stav A/B. Josef Navrátil (1798-1865) BERGLANDSCHAFT MIT STAFFAGE. Nach 1850. Öl auf Leinwand, 55x69 cm, links unten sign. „Jos: Nawratil“. Gerahmt. Zustand A/B.

JOSEF NAVRÁTIL (1798-1865) ALPEN LANDSCAPE WITH A HOUSE After 1850, Bohemia The quality of the landscape tells that the painting belongs to the 50s, when Navrátil's work was at its peak. The oil painting, which is of a small size, typical for the author, unites the dramatic character of the rocky, cloud-covered mountains and the sunlit idyll of the couple, churning butter at the doorstep. According to PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová, this painting represents one of the best demonstrations of the author's distinctive, masterful and enchanting style. Oil on canvas, signed in the bottom right corner: Jos. Nawratil. Assessment by PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová.
