    Three Hopi pots dating from the second half of the 20th century. The first a beautifully decorated low jar marked by Adelle Nampeyo (1975-) a grand-daughter of Nampeyo of Hano. The second a superb large Olla by Joy Navasie (1919-2012) who is known as Second Frog Woman. Joy is regarded as one fo the great potters of her generation working in the 1950-1990 period. The third  is a well executed pot by Clinton Polaco "Nampeyo." A grandson of Nampeyo of Hano, Polaco's work represents the latest iteration of the Hopi tradition. Measurements: 1" to 2-3/4" diameter Condition: Overall good.

    Two important Hopi pots. The first a polychrome Olla signed with a webbed frog on the bottom. The webbed frog is the symbol of the Second Frog Woman -- Joy Navasie (1919-2012) who was working from the 1950s until she retired in 1995. She is regarded as one of the most important of the Hopi potters. The second is a saucer shaped pot initialed for Maynard and Veronica Navasie. Maynard was the son of Joy "Second Frog Woman." Accompanying the pot is a red ribbon awarded to the Navasies. Note the name on the ribbon is Vivian while most sources give the name as Veronica. Measurements: 3-1/4" x 4-1/2" overall Condition: Overall good.

From the Adobe Gallery: Artist Joy Navasie was among the most famous and talented of Hopi-Tewa potters. Joy Navasie (1919 - 2012) second Frog Woman - Yellow Flower learned the skill of making pottery from her famous mother, Paqua Naha, the first Frog Woman. Joy was born in 1919 and recalls that she started making pottery when she was about 17 years old. Paqua Naha, just a few years before she passed away, developed the white ware pottery style in the mid-1950s. Joy Navasie picked up the tradition and continued it until her retirement in 1995. Now, her daughters (Marianne Navasie, Leona Navasie, Natelle Lee, Loretta Navasie Koshiway and Grace Lomahquahu) have continued the tradition. Joy Navasie signed her pottery with a frog hallmark, as did her mother. There is a difference in the way they each drew the feet of the frog. Paqua Naha used short straight toes and Joy Navasie used webbed toes.
