Measurements: 67 x 49 cm; 95 x 71 cm (frame). Painter and sculptor, Miquel Navarro is today considered one of the Spanish artists of greater international projection, as well as one of the most representative of the new Spanish sculpture of the seventies and eighties, oriented especially to the expanded space of the installations, as well as to the interventions on the nature and the actions on the body. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Valencia and began his career in the early sixties, exhibiting in 1973 his first "Ciutat", in clay, a concept of prototypical work that integrates sets of small pieces configured as structures and various constructions ranging from the rural to the urban and from the environmental to the industrial. Later he began to use iron, as it allowed him to make larger and more resistant sculptures. In 1980 he made the international leap with his first exhibition in New York (Guggenheim Museum), to be followed by others in Berlin, California, Mexico, Florence, etc. In 1986 he was awarded the National Prize of Plastic Arts, and in 2008 he was elected member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. He has monumental sculptures in several Spanish cities and abroad, and is represented in the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Reina Sofia Art Center in Madrid, the Georges Pompidou in Paris, the MACBA in Barcelona, the IVAM in Valencia, the Mie in Japan and the Wurth Künzelsau in Germany, among other public and private collections.

MIQUEL NAVARRO (Mislata, Valencia, 1945). "Home guaita". Satin aluminum, copy 10/150. Special edition for Bancaja of 150 numbered copies. Signed and numbered. Measurements: 50 x 8 x 8 cm. This is a special edition of 150 copies, a small version of the homonymous sculpture by Miquel Navarro located in the gardens of Viveros de Valencia, dated 1999. The public piece, owned by Bancaja, was made of steel. For this version, published by Bancaja, he has used aluminum, a material from which the artist manages to extract the maximum expression, subjecting it to an extreme formal purity that, as the title announces, tries to evoke a "vigilant man". Painter and sculptor, Miquel Navarro was trained at the School of Fine Arts in Valencia and began his career in the early sixties, exhibiting in 1973 his first "Ciutat", in clay, a concept of prototypical work that integrates sets of small pieces configured as structures and various constructions ranging from rural to urban and from environmental to industrial. MIQUEL NAVARRO, (Valencia, 1945). Untitled. Silkscreen on paper. Ibero-Swiss printing house. Without signature. Size: 70 x 50 cm. Miquel Navarro trained at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Valencia, and initially devoted himself to painting, although in the second part of his career he has turned to the world of three-dimensional form, working assiduously in sculpture. He has received numerous awards, such as the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1986, the National Prize of the Association of Art Critics in 1995, the Distinction of the Generalitat Valenciana for Cultural Merit in 2002, and the VIII International Julio González Prize in 2008, among others. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. His work is held in important national and international collections, such as the Guggenheim in New York, the Fundació Caixa de Pensions in Barcelona, the IVAM in Valencia, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Musée National Centre d'Art Georges Pompidou in Paris, the MACBA in Barcelona, etc. His work does not dispense with the figurative world, but stylises and synthesises reality, reducing it to its essential, geometric forms, as can be seen in the work presented here.

The architectural motif, in Miquel Navarro's work, often suggests the coercion of freedom, which in this composition takes on special semantic intensity. A painter and sculptor, Miquel Navarro is today considered to be one of the most internationally renowned Spanish artists, as well as one of the most representative of the new Spanish sculpture of the 1970s and 1980s, especially oriented towards the expanded space of installations, as well as interventions on nature and actions on the body. MIQUEL NAVARRO (Mislata, Valencia, 1945). "City of towers", 2019. Corten iron. Exemplary ½ (Unique piece). Measurements: 170 x 68 x 45 cm. Exhibitions: - "City of the Towers", Convent of the Annunciation "Las Úrsulas". Salamaca, 2019-present (another copy exhibited). - Terra plana", San Miguel Hall of the Caixa Castelló Foundation. Castellón de la Plana, from 28 November 2019 to 11 January 2020. - Art Madrid 15th Contemporary Art Fair, stand A11, Shiras Galería. Madrid, 2020. Although this work is part of an edition of two copies, it should be noted that the other copy belongs to the installation "City", being an indivisible part together with other pieces that make it up a set. Therefore, this particular work, "City of Towers", can be considered as a single copy. The work, made of iron, stands out for its rotundity, which comes not only from the material itself, but also from its treatment. Navarro proposes a cylindrical sculpture of large dimensions. Like a column, the piece has a sober lower area, which contrasts with the play of forms in the upper area. This is where the artist breaks with the cylinder, creating a set of edges and angles. Miquel Navarro's monumental sculptures have been installed in public spaces in Valencia, Castellón, Bilbao, Vitoria, Madrid, Brussels and Murcia, among other cities. Miquel Navarro is one of the leading representatives of what is known as the "New Spanish Sculpture". The artist began his career in the 1960s with a very personal pictorial style. Around 1974 he produced his first City, a set of modular, repetitive elements with geometric shapes, grouped in compositions that simulate the urban fabric and generate landscapes that are spatially distributed in the manner of a sculptural installation. These Cities are a constant in later years and are based on the predominance of the complex perception of space, as opposed to the observation of isolated pieces. In each of his installation pieces he generates a poetics of structures, for which he uses a variety of materials. The most frequent themes of his sculptures range from warriors, totems, moons, buildings and canalisations to insects and fountains. Some of the elements that are integrated into the cities can also be considered as autonomous sculptures. In 1980 the Guggenheim Museum in New York devoted an exhibition to him. From the beginning of this decade, Miquel Navarro extended his activity to the design of stage sets, as in the two major productions for the plays Vente a Sinapia and Absalón at the Teatro Español in Madrid. The National Prize for Plastic Arts, awarded in 1986, confirms the artist as one of the leading exponents of Spanish Contemporary Art. In January 1990 the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno (IVAM) dedicated a retrospective exhibition to Miguel Navarro.

MIQUEL NAVARRO (Mislata, Valencia, 1946). "3-8", 2004. Sculpture in polychrome aluminum, copy 3/8. Unique piece, signed and dated on the base. Exhibitions: - Miquel Navarro. Dolmen. Archaeology of pleasure and sadness, Fernández-Braso. 2021. - Fernández - Braso at ARCOmadrid 2016, Fernández-Braso. 2016. Measurements: 135 x 56 x 34 cm. This piece, made of iron, stands out for its rotundity, given by the material and its treatment. The organic and machinic elements interpenetrate in this sculpture full of edges but also of zoomorphic suggestions. He studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos (Valencia). He began as a painter in 1964, making drawings and paintings on paper. In 1968 he made reliefs in rubber and plastic, and in 1972 he definitively opted for sculpture. However, his beginnings in the field of painting left their mark on his production, especially in wall reliefs. His work moved towards installations and assemblages, in the form of sculptural landscapes, although in the seventies he alternated assemblages with more traditional, autonomous sculptures. In 1980 he exhibited for the first time in New York. In this decade he experimented with new artistic manifestations, creating the scenographies for the plays "Vente a Sinapia", by Fernando Savater, and "Absalón", by Calderón de la Barca, both at the Teatro Nacional de Madrid. In 1984 a 23-meter fountain was inaugurated in a public square in Valencia, commemorating the bringing of drinking water from the Júcar River to the city, but he never gave up stagings, one of which "LA Ciudad" was exhibited in Grasz (Austria), Madrid and London. The influence of Russian constructivism and the work of Julio Gonzalez are also perceptible in his works of the last decade. His "Cities", which he has been developing since 1972, are complex installations, made with multiple pieces of ceramic materials and mainly clay -material full of cultural connotations and easy malleability. Refractory, zinc, lead, wood, plaster or marble are also extensively used by Navarro. As Garrido Moreno pointed out, the use of iron was especially important for the evolution of his work, allowing him to channel the architectural conception of his cities into simple geometric forms, losing part of their anecdotal character and becoming more schematic and essential. In these cities he usually emphasizes a vertical element that, over time, has become independent until it has become an isolated piece. In his career we can highlight the National Prize of Plastic Arts, obtained in 1986, the Alfons Roig Prize (Diputación de Valencia, 1987), the CEOE Prize for the Arts (1990) or the National Prize of the Association of Art Critics (AECA) ARCO'95.

Therefore, this particular piece, "City of Towers", can be considered as a unique piece. The artist began his career in the 1960s with a pictorial style.

He began as a painter in 1964, making drawings and paintings on paper. In 1968 he made reliefs in rubber and plastic, and in 1972 he definitively opted for sculpture.
