        Takashi Naraha, Prisma, Sculpture, 1978

        Est: €1,000 - €1,300

Sculpture made of Diabase Takashi Naraha (b. 1930) – Japanese sculptor Signed in Japanese and dated ‘1978’ on the underside Dimensions: 14.4 x 18.3 x 9.8 cm Provenance: Private collection, Sweden The contrast between shiny black and matte gray matte takes effect in this small sculpture as well as the opposition of precise geometrical form to amorphous areas Condition: The sculpture bears several stains to the unpolished areas. Otherwise the condition is good. Takashi Naraha (b. 1930) Takashi Naraha, born on the Japanese island of Honshu, studied from 1950 to 1955 sculpture in Tokyo. Counted among the circle of the avant-garde art movement Mono-ha, Naraha had his first solo exhibition at a gallery in Tokyo in 1967. In 1973 he participated in a sculpture symposium in Swedish Hägghult where the basaltic rock Diabase quarried there fascinated him deeply so that he settled in Sweden in 1975. Since then he works only with this whinstone and creates sculptures which develop their effect by reduced formal design and the stone typical contrast of black shiny polish and gray, untreated fractured surfaces.
