Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sarah Sewell Munroe became a painter, especially noted for watercolor. She lived in Washington DC for many years, but spent her summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts. There she was a student of Charles Hawthorne at the Cape Cod School of Art. She also studied with Childe Hassam.
Memberships included the Washington DC Society of Artists, the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors and the Washington DC Water Color Club.
