Provenance: Purchased directly from the artist. Exhibited: An Exhibition of Portraits in Wax by the Internationally Famous Ethel Frances Mundy, Closson's, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1938. Louise Fleischmann Tate, aunt of Charles "Skip" Fleischmann III, was the eldest child and only daughter born to Julius and Lilly Ackerland Fleischmann on June 8, 1894. She married her first husband, Henry Craig Yeiser (1892-1936) in 1916, and the couple had two sons. Louise and her second husband, Benjamin Ethan Tate (1890-1868) married on August 17, 1936, in New London, Connecticut. A dedicated philanthropist throughout her life, Louise was an avowed champion of women's reproductive rights and founded the Maternal Health League of Cincinnati, later Planned Parenthood, of which she became president. In addition, she contributed her time and resources in service of the Natural History Museum, the Cincinnati Zoo, UC Health's Holmes Hospital, Camp Stepping Stones, and Hoxworth Blood Center. She died in Cincinnati on December 25, 1987.

Mundy pioneered the art of the wax sculpture in the early 20th century studying under Fernando A. Carter, John Twachtman, Miss Louise Stowell and, Amy Sacker. She went on to serve as a trustee of the Syracuse Museum of Art for 30 years. Henry D. Sharpe is listed on her patrons list beside John D. Rockefeller, Harry Guggenheim, and Elizabeth B. Custer.

      Outstanding medallion wax silhouette depicting a shoulder length silhouette in color of a woman with light brown hair wearing a blue & gold necklace. The silhouette is set against a wax medallion background with the edge having sitters' name, the date "1915" and the artist's name. Original gold gilt wood round frame with loop top and front glass. The artist has had two exhibitions, one November 1928 at the Ackermann Galleries in Chicago and the Corcoran in Washington, February 1929. She was a very expensive artist with prices ranging from $400-650 in 1928. Her list of clients included the Fricks, Mellon's; Morgan's; Rockefeller's; Vanderbilt's & Whitney's. The sitter, Fanny Evans, was the mother of the four children who founded Mary Elizabeth Restaurant in New York City. SIZE: Sight: 3-1/2" dia. PROVENANCE: Descended through the family of one of the founders of Mary Elizabeth Restaurant, New York City. CONDITION: Very good. 9-20580
