Image measures 14.125 in. x 18 in. Sheet measures 15.75 in. x 19.5 in. Unframed, loose and not glued or mounted. Provenance: Estate collection of William Greenbaum, Gloucester, Massachusetts, Proprietor of William Greenbaum Fine Prints. If lot is absent of a condition report one may be requested via email. Condition report is provided as an opinion only and is no guarantee as condition can be subjective. Buyer must view photographs or scans to assist in determining condition and ask further questions if so desired. Our in-house shipping department will gladly pack and ship any item that fits into a 14x14x14 inch or 30x5x24 inch or equivalent or smaller box/folio if it is not fragile or over 25lbs. Biography from Butler Institute of American Art: Song Moy was born in Canton, China in 1921, and came to the United States in 1931. He studied painting first in the Saint Paul School of Minneapolis, with Cameron Booth, and then in New York, with Vaclav Vytlacyl and Hans Hoffmann in 1941 and 1942. During the war Moy served in the U.S. Air Force in the China-Burma field of operations (1943-1946) as aerial photographer. The artist has a wide teaching experience. University of Minnesota, 1950; Indiana University 1952-1954; Smith College 1954-1955; Vassar College 1955. At present Moy teaches at Cooper Union, Columbia University, Art Students League and conducts classes in painting and graphic arts in Provincetown during the summer. A painter and graphic artist, Seong Moy was born in Canton, China, and came to the United States in 1931. He studied painting at the Saint Paul School of Minneapolis and then went to New York, where he studied with Vaclav Vytlacil and Hans Hofmann in 1941 and 1942. His paintings have been included in national and international group exhibitions, beginning with the Metropolitan Museum of Art show  American Painting 1950. As a printmaker, he received a fellowship to Stanley William Hayter’s Atelier 17 in 1948 and was awarded a Guggenheim grant in 1955 for his color woodcut illustrations of the poems of Li Po (Chinese, 8th century). His prints have been widely exhibited and reproduced in magazines. Moy has taught at many colleges and universities, and also headed the Seong Moy School of Painting and Graphics in Provincetown, Massachusetts, during the summer.

            Seong Moy (Chinese American, 1921-2013) On Shore oil on masonite signed lower right. Signed and titled verso. Biography from Butler Institute of American Art Song Moy was born in Canton, China in 1921, and came to the United States in 1931. He studied painting first in the Saint Paul School of Minneapolis, with Cameron Booth, and then in New York, with Vaclav Vytlacyl and Hans Hoffmann in 1941 and 1942. During the war Moy served in the U.S. Air Force in the China-Burma field of operations (1943-1946) as aerial photographer. The artist has a wide teaching experience. University of Minnesota, 1950; Indiana University 1952-1954; Smith College 1954-1955; Vassar College 1955. Moy taught at Cooper Union, Columbia University, Art Students League and conducted classes in painting and graphic arts in Provincetown during the summer. 9 1/4"H x 29 1/4"W (image), 10 1/4"H x 30"W (frame).
