      ALEXANDER MOSSES (BRITISH, 1793-1837) A double-sided miniature of Edward Carrington (b. 1807) and Edmund Carrington (1808-1883): one in blue cloak, black collar, tartan cravat, curling hair; the other in blue coat, buff waistcoat, black stock, curling hair both signed with initials 'AM' (the former mid-right, the latter lower left) on ivory oval, 2 7/8 in. (72 mm.) high, gilt-metal frame with foliate surround, in hinged red leather travelling case The former inscribed on the backing card 'Painted by Alex. Mosses 1827', the latter 'Painted by Alexυr. Mosses March 1829'
