      Portraying shipyard workers returning from Kittery at the end of the day transported in long rowboats, before the advent of ferry service or bridges. Oil on canvas, 24 x 30 inches. Signed, dated and inscribed "Coming from the/ Navy Yard/ Portsmouth/ T.P. Moses/ August '67" on the reverse. Described in the "Portsmouth Journal" of September 7, 1867 as being on view at the Music Store of Mr. Joy, the painting was purchased by Richard Henry Dana (1815-1882), author of "Two Years Before the Mast" and a summer resident of Kittery.Exhibition and Literature: The cover illustration for Richard M.
