Labeled with original plaque on backrest. Circa 1935. Dimensions: H 32" x W 23" x D 29" x SH 16" Condition: A few scuffs to paint finishes, some pitting and scratches to chrome; minor soiling and discoloration to cushions.

        Chrome-plated steel, wool upholstery, lacquered beech wood Switzerland, around 1933/34 Werner Max Moser (1896-1970) - Swiss architect and designer Embru (est. 1904) - Manufacturer of quality furniture with functional design Execution by Embru, um 1934 Sales by residential demand , Zurich Adjustable tubular steel chair Model: 1435 On the back on the frame with 'Wohnbedarf' and 'EMBRU' plaques Dimensions: 76 x 60.5 x 50 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Munich, Germany Rare, early model of Moser's cantilever chair in the typical fashion of European modernism This comfortable cantilever armchair was designed by the Swiss architect Werner Max Moser and manufactured by company Embru. In 1930 Moser had designed a cantilever chair, which differed by from other models of this kind. He had separated the cushion frame from the cantilever base so that the sitting position was adjustable. The seat and back cushions were also only resting on top of the frame. The chair is in good condition. The upholstery is in good condition with only minimal staining, there is light wear to the armrests (repainted). The back of the frame bears two plaques 'Wohnbedarf' and 'EMBRU'. The chair has a back height of 76 cm, a width of 60.5 cm, a seat depth of 50 cm and a seat height of 47 cm. Werner Max Moser (1896-1970) Werner Max Moser (1896-1970) studied architecture under his father Karl Moser at ETHZ in Zurich. After completing his studies, Moser worked for Frank Lloyd Wright in the United States which influenced his architectonic principle a great deal. He returned home in order to work in his father's office designing furniture. In 1927, he joined the Schweizer Kollektivgruppe. The group designed the interiosr of several aparments in the Weissenhof-Block of Mies van der Rohe. Werner Max Moser co-founded the Zurich-based company Wohnbedarf AG in 1931. A few years later in 1937, he joined his colleagues Max Ernst Haefeli and Rudolf Steiger and together they founded the office Haefli, Moser, Steiger (HMS).
