Audrey Morton Art for Sale and Sold Prices

Audrey is the daughter of Utopia artist Mary Morton Kemarre. Her sisters Lucky, Sarah and Ruby Morton are also well known in the Aboriginal art industry.

Along with her mother and sisters Audrey participated in batik workshops that were held in Utopia from 1977 to 1987. Her work is represented in the Holmes á Court Collection which was exhibited extensively within Australia and abroad.

Audrey, like her sisters, paints an extraordinary variety of stories which they say come from two countries: Ngkwarlerlanem and Arnkawenyerr, of which they belong to. Audrey can also paint the ceremonial body paint designs (Awelye) belonging to these two countries as well as her mother’s country Antarrengeny.

Audrey Morton Kngwarreye is an important painter, continuously painting since 1977. The same tradition as her mother Mary Morton and sisters Gracie Morton 1956), Lucky Morton (1951) and Ruby Morton (1968) all renowned Australian artists. Also, one of the most renowned Australian artists Emily Kame Kngwarreye (1910-1996) is a family member. Raised by a generation of indigenous artists of the 1970s, when Western craft practices and traditional Indigenous imagery were combined for the first time, Audrey Morton inherited the creative artistic gene. Audrey creates quality, stunning paintings that have the physical presence of the much contemporary art. Audrey paints with fascinating accuracy of intricate details of subtle shades and is able to attain the multi dimensional effect, the image seems to float in the air and moves with the viewer’s eyes. Audrey work is represented: Museum of Victoria, Museum and Art Gallery Northern Territory, National Gallery of Victoria, Homes a Court Collection, National Gallery of Australia Mbantua Museum Collection, and many private collections in Europe and USA.
