Moore '89 (lr) Oil on canvas 22 1/4 x 26 1/4 inches (56.5 x 66.7 cm) (Frame dimensions: 28 1/2 x 32 1/2 inches) Frame abrasion with associated wear to the edges. A couple scattered abrasions with associated losses to pigment in the lower right quadrant, including an abrasion to the cluster of green grapes. Otherwise no apparent restoration or inpaint visible under UV light inspection.

      Eleanor Moore (New York, Illinois, late 20th C.) Large still life painting depicting an oriental vase, a cluster of grapes on a ledge, and an oriental rug hanging in the background. Signed and dated lower right. Moore was trained at the Chicago Art Institute and the Art Students League in New York, Eleanor Moore paints still lifes reminiscent of works by the Old Dutch Masters with great emphasis on color, shapes and atmosphere. Moore has exhibited with Knickerbocker Artists, the American Artists Professional League, Allied Artists of America, Hudson Valley Art Association and the Artists of America Show. Provenance: Important New York City collection. Sight Size: 30 x 40 in. Overall Framed Size: 42 x 51 in.

ROBERTSON) BRIDGE IN SOOCHOW ON THE WAY TO TIGER HILL watercolour, signed 54cm x 44cm label verso: inscribed 'Bridge in Soochow on the Way to Tiger Hill was painted by my mother Eleanor Allen Moor (Mrs E A Robertson) between 1925 and 1937, Ailsa Tanner.' note: The artist's work was included in 'The Glasgow Girls' exhibition at Kirkcudbright until 30th August 2010. Ailsa Tanner is the author of the acclaimed book 'The Glasgow Girls'. This lot is accompanied with a limited edition book on the life of E. A. Robertson. From a private Scottish collection.

      ELEANOR ALLEN MOORE ( ROBERTSON) (1885 -1995) Street Scene, Peking watercolour, signed 35cm x 25cm Provenance: Ewan Mundy Fine Art Limited Note : Attended the GSA. She first exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute in 1909. Working as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse took her to Craigleith Hospital, Edinburgh with little time for painting. On return to Loudoun (Ayrshire) she painted The Silk Dress which was exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute in 1919 and illustrated in the catalogue. She married Dr Robert Cecil Robertson of Kilmarnock in 1922 and the following year their daughter Ailsa was born. In 1925 the family moved to Shanghai where Dr Robertson took up a position in Public Health. The countryside and particularly the Chinese people provided a rich resource for her artistic talent and she produced many fascinating vivid images of life there. In 1937 the British were evacuated to Hong Kong where her husband died in 1942. She no longer painted after returning to Britain and died in Edinburgh. Her work is included in "The Glasgow Girls" exhibition at Kirkcudbright until 30th August 2010. Private Scottish Collection. Copy of the purchase receipt accompanies this lot.
